Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS BASE CAMP?

BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation was established in Orlando, Florida back in 1982. Unlike many cancer foundations, we focus on providing a year-round series of programs to help children and families along the journey of cancer and other life-threatening hematological illnesses. We Educate So That You Can Help Us. We’re BASE Camp: Your Support Base for Children’s Cancer. Like the base encampments that are built as climbers ascend mountains, our programs offer a place to stop along the journey for rest, nourishment, encouragement, and strength to finish the climb. Cancer, sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, and other rare/orphan hematological diseases can be such mountains in children’s lives. BASE Camp serves as the support “base” where patients and their families can turn to for help and support on their journey.

WHAT PROGRAMS AND SERVICES DOES BASE CAMP OFFER?

BASE Camp offers a variety of programs and services, mainly designed with the following belief in mind: that all kids deserve to have fun, and to feel normal. These year-round programs include “Second Wishes,” “Christmas in July,” “Milestone Parties,” and many more. We also offer support groups and “Nights Out” for parents, while our programs for kids serve as a different kind of “support group” where they can spend time with peers who understand their journey. WHO QUALIFIES FOR BASE CAMP’S PROGRAMS AND SERVICES?

Our primary members are children, their ages ranging from infants to 19-years-old. We know that cancer affects entire families, not just our patients. Because of that, we serve not only children who are ill with cancer or other hematological diseases, but their siblings, too. BASE Camp also offers support to children of parents who have cancer or other hematological diseases. We invite all patients and their families, even after they have completed treatment, to continue attending BASE Camp events. Learn more about us and our members here.
