We have learned how valuable this is to someone who is very ill – it is something to look forward to and help them make it through many difficult days.
The Shrine’s official philanthropy is Shriners Hospitals for Children, a network of 22 hospitals that provide expert, no-cost orthopaedic and burn care to children under 18.
Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making a world of difference for seriously ill children and their families. We touch the lives of a sick child and family all along their journey through a serious illness, from the time of diagnosis all the way through, in the hospital and at home.
Sunshine Foundation is the original wish granting organization founded in 1976 by former Philadelphia police officer Bill Sample. While on protective duty at a Philadelphia area children’s hospital, Bill witnessed firsthand the financial and emotional burden placed on the families of children with illnesses. He saw that so many families could not afford to give their sick child one last wish, Bill, with the help of a handful of other dedicated people, got together to give Sunshine’s first wish- a trip to the for Bobby, who wanted to see the mountains and play in the snow. Bobby passed away a short while after that, but not before his only wish was realized.
